Most of us have been conditioned our entire lives to mask our emotions. Some of us have even been conditioned to believe that our feelings don't matter. We start to shame them and lock them down deep inside ourselves because we are afraid to express them and to feel them. When they start to surface, we panic and do whatever it takes to distract ourselves from our feelings. We even go as far as to project them onto other people and blame them for how we feel when ultimately, we don't even know how we feel because we don't allow ourselves to feel what is surfacing. When an emotion is surfacing it's because it needs to be seen and felt by you. It wants to leave but you won't let it. You keep holding it there and making it part of your daily life. Allowing yourself to feel these emotions as they arise will be painful but it will also free you from the constant pain you feel by holding them in.
